I’m always on the lookout for one of these that’s been well kept. I drove one in Fontanafredda that was aesthetically quite good, but they all seem to have miles on them, this one especially. The Sportline was the sportiest version of the Golf Cabriolet. They were only made in red and black; red was more popular at the time, but I prefer black. It featured Recaro seats, a three spoke steering wheel, BBS wheels, and Sportline graphics.
I’m not sure how many were made; English speaking sources suggest 500 or less, but that may refer to the number that were imported to the UK. None were sold in the United States.
This example has over 200k miles and doesn’t look perfect aesthetically, but the seller says it runs perfectly. It won’t win any shows, but it could be a very rare, fun driver at a good price.
